Santa D-Baby (the D stands for diabetes)

With it being Christmas Eve and all, I thought I'd try re-writing one of my favorite Christmas songs in honor of the occasion (and, of course, in honor all my D-Friends out there)!

Although I adore the original 1953 rendition of this holiday song by the wonderful Eartha Kitt, I have a particular fondness for the 1987 Madonna version of this song since it was perhaps the first of what would become many remakes of this holiday classic (and I was from the Madonna era). After Madonna remade the song, many others would follow in her footsteps, including Mariah Carey, Kylie Minogue, Shakira, drag Queen RuPaul, and (heaven help me) Taylor Swift (don't get me wrong, I like Taylor Swift, but I really do NOT dig re-making a song like this and giving a country twang ... ick!) just to name a few.

The other day, the IN VIVO blog re-wrote the lyrics to "Santa Baby" for the pharmaceutical industry, so I figured it might be MORE appropriate to re-write it, diabetes style! First, here is the Madonna version so you can listen to what my rewrite should sound like (visit HERE):

Santa D-Baby (Madonna style)

Santa D-baby, slip a new pancreas under the tree, for me
Been an awful good girl [or guy, depending on one's gender]
Santa D-baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa D-baby, just tested at 54 (mg/dL), it's so completely outta the blue
I'll wait up for you dear Santa D-baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Think of all the fun I've missed
Think of all the times my glucose levels have made me pissed
Next year I could be oh so good
If you'll check off my Christmas list
Boo doo bee doo

Santa honey, I wanna do away with lancets, and really that's
Not a lot
Been an angel all year
Santa D-baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa D-baby, one thing I really do need is not to bleed
The next time I put in my infusion set
Santa D-baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa cutie and fill my stocking with a CGMS
Sign your 'X' on the insurance authorization line
Santa D-baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Come and trim my Christmas tree
With a Medic-Alert bought at Tiffany
I really do believe in you
Let's see if you believe in me
Boo doo bee doo

Santa D-baby, forgot to mention one little thing, a ring
I don't mean on a phone
Santa D-baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight
Hurry down the chimney tonight
Hurry ... tonight

Ohhhh Santa D-Baby

That's awesome! Atleast, you're doing good despite of your diabetes. Keep up the good work and always stay happy. Hope to read more post from you.
