(Are you able to get C-Peptide with your biosynthetic insulin made by big pharma? No! Also, governance of Chinese products sold in the U.S. is the FDA's problem to deal with. Although a big part of the problem is the fact China is not in compliance with basic WTO guidelines, yet nothing is done about the situation because the U.S.'s largest company, Wal-Mart lobbies hard to ensure unencumbered access to cheap products from that country.

The reality is that free markets only work effectively when competition exists, and that clearly is not the case today. One of the most basic economics concepts is that competition results in better quality products at lower prices, and spurs innovation among manufacturers. Today, all of these things are missing. If you think back to the 1970's when people avoided buying U.S. cars made on Mondays or Fridays because quality on those days suffered because workers were either hung over or ready to leave for the weekend, then you have a good comparison to the oligopoly that exists today in the U.S. insulin market, which has not seen a truly new product introduced in over a decade (and the first analog took over 80 years to develop) and not one major manufacturer has anything in development today.

One need not use generics to appreciate the huge benefits they have created for society as a whole. The real issue is whether we should remain silent while our Congress does nothing about the issue?Scott Shttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03286529314567223617noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16774010.post-63351509340685501612007-11-13T13:39:00.000-05:002007-11-13T13:39:00.000-05:00I find that to be good news. I am not a fan of generic insulin or any other generic type of medication.
This is because many of the chemical companies that supply the products which go into the manufacturing of the generic drug are supplied by chemical companies in both China and India(for the most part), which have notorious records for contaminated and poorly controlled end-products that should never be accepted here in the USA.
Some of the reasons for this is an inadequate staff of FDA Regulators as well as a "hurry and get rich" Greed that exists in places like China as well as with American manufacturers that want the cheapest product available so as to make the biggest buck available w/o too much concern regarding safety and efficiency.
Contaminated toys/pet foods/wheat products are only part of the list that emanates from places like China, where safety is second to Greed.BetterCellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13667917240368089110noreply@blogger.com
